For those of you who haven’t yet Googled “Zanzibar” while sipping tea at your desk, it’s a tropical paradise off the coast of Tanzania. Think white-sand beaches, turquoise water, and spice markets that smell like a dream. Until now, getting there from the UK meant at least one stop—often a long, sweaty one in the Middle East or mainland Africa.
TUI’s new direct flights will cut that nonsense out completely. From 2027, you’ll be able to hop on a plane from London Gatwick and land in Zanzibar’s breezy airport, ready to ask, “Where’s my beach towel?” within hours. It’s like the travel gods finally listened to our collective whining.
Why Now? And Why 2027?
You might be thinking, “2027? That’s ages away! I’ve got avocado on toast to plan for tomorrow.” I hear you. But here’s the thing: these things take time. TUI needs to sort out planes, crew, and probably a few hundred suncream samples. Plus, it gives you three whole years to save up for that all-inclusive bungalow with a plunge pool—or at least to convince your boss you need a two-week “wellness retreat” for stress management.
The delay also means Zanzibar can prepare for a wave of British tourists armed with selfie sticks and questionable sun hats. Let’s be honest: TUI knows we’ll be there, demanding fish and chips by the Indian Ocean. They’re giving the island a heads-up.
