Look, I get it—it’s just sports. But today’s game wasn’t just about points. It was about patience and grit. You saw it in how the freshmen handled pressure, and how the veterans carried the load. That’s the UConn DNA: they make winning look easy, but you know it’s hard as hell.
After the game, I caught a postgame interview with Paige. She smiled and said, “We just stayed together.” I wanted to roll my eyes at the cliché, but honestly? It’s true. In a world that’s chaotic, these women create order out of chaos. And that’s something to celebrate.
As I walked out of Gampel, the hot dog long gone, I smiled at a stranger wearing a Bueckers jersey. She smiled back. We didn’t say a word. We didn’t need to. We both saw something today: greatness, pure and simple. And if you missed it? No worries—there’s always next game. But trust me, don’t miss that one.
