The prisoners had to get creative to obtain the necessary materials for their escape. They used forged documents, created using primitive printing presses, to convince the German guards that they were supposed to be receiving certain items. They even bribed some of the guards with cigarettes and other luxury items to turn a blind eye to their escape plans.
The prisoners also had to come up with disguises to wear once they escaped. They created fake German uniforms, complete with bad stitching and subpar materials. It's amazing they didn't get caught just based on their dodgy fashion sense alone!
