First, a reality check. Most of us drink bottled water because it’s convenient, not because it’s magical. Tap water in the U.S. is actually pretty great—hello, fluoride for your teeth!—but let’s be honest: not everyone loves the taste of their local pipes.
So when you grab a bottle, you’re usually chasing one thing: purity or taste. Or, if you’re me, something that doesn’t taste like a plastic factory. (You know that faint, weird aftertaste? Yeah, I hate it too.)
The Usual Suspects: What’s in the Fridge?
Let’s run through the heavy hitters. Aquafina and Dasani are everywhere—like the McDonald’s of water. They’re purified tap water, stripped and re-mineralized. They’re fine, but they’re rarely exciting. Ever notice how Dasani has a slightly salty kick? That’s magnesium sulfate. Not terrible, but also not “mountain spring.”
Then you’ve got Poland Spring and Nestlé Pure Life. These are spring waters, which sounds fancier, but honestly? Poland Spring can taste a bit flat sometimes. Nestlé? It’s okay, but I’d rather not support a company that’s always in some water-rights lawsuit. (I know, I’m making it political—sorry, not sorry.)
