Your best weapon? The official Wimbledon app. It’s like a Swiss Army knife of confusion. It tells you “Order of Play” which is bureaucrat-speak for “we will ruin your day.” It updates the start time every 17 minutes, just to keep you on your toes.
BBC Sport - Wimbledon
Here’s a mind-blowing fact: the first match ever played at Wimbledon started at 11:30 AM in 1877. Back then, there was no TV, no internet, and the players wore long trousers. They probably didn’t ask “what time is it?” because they just stared at a sundial and prayed.
Today, you have BBC iPlayer, ESPN, and a dozen streaming services, yet the time remains a mystery. Why? Because Wimbledon is a living organism. It eats time for breakfast.
Don’t Trust Your Friends
Your friend Dave will text you: “The final is on at 2 PM.” Dave is lying. Dave doesn’t know that the women’s final is always at 2:00 PM on Saturday, but the men’s final is at 2:00 PM on Sunday—unless there’s a rain delay, in which case it becomes 4:00 PM, and Dave is now your enemy.
Speaking of finals, did you know the longest match in history—the 2010 Isner-Mahut epic—lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes over three days? It was scheduled to start at 2:30 PM. It ended at 4:48 PM two days later. So when you ask “what time is it on today?” the answer is: potentially tomorrow.
