So, what was actually said at the Bafta Awards? Honestly? Not a lot that makes sense, but a whole lot that made us feel things. We learned that sound designers have weird hobbies. We learned that Robert Downey Jr.’s childhood was a comedy album. And we learned that if you ever want to silence a room full of celebrities, just have a handbag spontaneously combust.
In the end, the Baftas were a beautiful, ridiculous, slightly damp (it’s Britain, after all) celebration of film. The speeches were raw, the jokes hit or missed, and the winner of the night was probably the poor intern whose job it was to re-zip that lady’s bag. See you next year, when someone will inevitably bring a living seagull as a date.
