Picture this: It’s a Thursday night. You’ve had one too many laughs with friends at a pub near Cutty Sark. You check your phone and it’s 11:45 PM. The last train from Greenwich to Bank might be already hugging the tracks on its final journey. Cue the cold panic.
The rule of thumb is to aim for the very last departure before 12:30 AM on weekdays. Think of it as the Cinderella carriage. After that, the pumpkin turns into a night bus, and nobody wants that after a long day.
The Weekend Lifeline
For the weekend warriors, I have good news. On Friday and Saturday nights, the DLR actually keeps a 24-hour service on most central sections. Imagine leaving a concert at the O2 at 2 AM and still gliding home without calling an expensive cab. It feels like cheating the system, doesn’t it?
But don’t get too cocky. The late-night service runs less frequently, usually every 10 to 15 minutes. You’ll still get home, but you’ll have time to stare at the empty platform and contemplate life. Bring a podcast.
