Don’t worry—the world won’t end. The government usually runs multiple tests across the year. If you miss the 20th April one, there will likely be another in autumn 2026. It’s like a very un-fun annual event.
Some people miss the test because they’re on a plane, in a basement, or—my personal favourite—“I was in the shower and thought my shampoo bottle was crying.” That’s totally valid.
If you do miss it, you can check the official GOV.UK website for updates. They’re surprisingly good at posting schedules, though they could add a bit of jazz music to the page. Just saying.
A Little History: “Remember the 2026 Chaos?”
Remember the first test back in April 2026? Phones went off at 3:00 PM, and the internet exploded with memes about it. People compared it to a zombie apocalypse warning. I personally thought my phone was possessed by a grumpy ghost.
There was one glitch, though: some phones got the alert twice. Yes, double the panic, double the fun. The government fixed that, so 2026 should be smoother. Fingers crossed.
Also, fun fact: the test was postponed twice before that date. Once because of a political crisis (obviously), and once because—”technical issues.” Classic government move.
