If you’re reading this and thinking, “Mine doesn’t look like that,” you’re probably looking at an Android text in the same app. iMessage only works between Apple devices. When you text a friend with a Samsung or Pixel, those bubbles turn green, and you lose features like read receipts and tapbacks. It’s Apple’s way of saying, “Join us or suffer.”
Ironically, that green bubble stigma is real. People have broken up over the color difference. So if you want to stay in iMessage utopia, make sure your circle uses iPhones. Or just accept that your sibling on a Google phone will forever be a green-text outcast. You monster.
One Last Place to Check: The Dock
I know, I know, you’ve already checked the home screen. But some people pin their Messages app to the Dock—that row of four icons at the bottom of your screen. If you don’t see it there, you can drag it from your Apps Library (swipe all the way left past your last home screen page) into the Dock for instant access. It’s like giving your most-used app a VIP seat.
And if you still can’t find it? Restart your iPhone. Seriously. It fixes 90% of “where is the thing?” problems. My mom did a restart, and suddenly, the Messages icon appeared like it was playing hide-and-seek. She called me back, victorious, and said, “I found it! It was right there all along!” Yes, Mom. It always was.
