Before Leah, Annabeth was famously played by Alexandra Daddario in the old movie adaptations from 2010 and 2013. Alexandra was great in her own way—she had that fierce, determined look. But honestly, those movies didn’t quite capture the magic of the books, did they?
Who plays Annabeth Chase in Percy Jackson and the Olympians? - Leah
Now, with the new TV series, the creators—including author Rick Riordan himself—wanted someone who matched Annabeth’s soul, not just her description. And guess what? Rick loved Leah from the start. He even wrote a whole blog post defending her casting, saying she is Annabeth.
The Big Deal About Representation
Here’s where it gets really cool. Leah Jeffries is a Black actress playing a character who was originally described as white in the books. Some folks got weird about it online, but honestly? Demigods come in all shades.
Think about it: Athena is the goddess of wisdom, not a skin color. Annabeth’s story is about brains, bravery, and being a loyal friend. Leah brings that heart to the role. It’s like saying a demigod’s power doesn’t care about your hair color—it cares about your courage. How awesome is that?
