The man who brings the infamous, womanizing, utterly charming Rupert Campbell-Black to life is none other than David Tennant. Yes, that David Tennant—the one who made the Doctor cool and made every crime drama he touches an instant hit. But here, he’s swapping a sonic screwdriver for a riding crop and a killer smile.
To say this is a role is an understatement. It’s a glorious, scene-chewing, naughty treat. Tennant dives headfirst into the character with such mischievous gusto that you almost root for this absolute rogue.
Why This Casting is Pure Magic
Imagine the least likely actor to play a polo-playing, aristocratic lothario from the 1980s. Got it? Good. Now forget that, because David Tennant is perfect. He uses his signature twinkle in the eye not for kindness, but for pure, unadulterated menace and charm.
He captures Rupert’s arrogance without making him a one-note villain. You’ll find yourself laughing at his audacity one second, and gasping at his nerve the next. It’s a masterclass in playing a character who is terrible and yet completely irresistible to watch.
And can we talk about the hair? The chest? The accent? It’s a costume-and-dialogue dream come true. Tennant clearly had an absolute ball, and that infectious joy leaps right through the screen at you.
