Here’s the chill reality: streaming shows don’t just get renewed because we love them. Hulu has to crunch the numbers. The show is expensive (those red cloaks don’t pay for themselves), and the cast is full of stars. Plus, Elisabeth Moss has her own production company now, so scheduling is like herding cats—but smart, award-winning cats. Also, did you know that the show was initially planned for 10 seasons? Yeah, they dialed it back because even dystopia gets tired.

Another factor: the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2026 delayed everything. It’s like your favorite pub suddenly closing for renovations. The good news? The team is still talking. In interviews, Bruce Miller has said, “We have an ending in mind,” and he’s hinted that ending might need more than one season. So, keep your fingers crossed, but don’t hold your breath.
But What About the Source Material? Margaret Atwood’s Shadow
Here’s a fun twist: the show has already passed the original book. The 1985 novel ends with a big question mark (no spoilers, but it’s a gut-punch). The showrunners have been making it up as they go since Season 2. That’s why it feels so wild and unpredictable—like a road trip with no GPS. A Season 7 would let them go even further off the map, exploring The Testaments (Atwood’s 2019 sequel). That book is set 15 years later and focuses on Aunt Lydia’s secret rebellion. Imagine seeing that story play out, with June as a legend. That would be cool as heck.
