Sundays are sacred. M&S knows this. They don’t open until 10:00 AM. This is for the people who roll out of bed, have a cuppa, and then remember they need a lemon drizzle cake. It’s a gentle start to the day. No one is in a rush.
Then, they lock up at 4:00 PM. This is the most dangerous hour of the week. You think you have plenty of time at 3:30 PM, but suddenly it’s 3:55 PM, and you’re sprinting down the aisle for a pack of Colin the Caterpillar cake. It’s a tradition.
The “Five-Minute Miracle”
I once dashed in at 3:58 PM on a Sunday. A lovely lady at the checkout said, “You’re cutting it fine, love.” I just laughed and handed over my cheese. She scanned it with the speed of a ninja. It was glorious. That’s the community spirit of Ashtead. They understand the panic.
