Let’s talk about the story, because it’s the foundation of the entire Zelda timeline. Skyward Sword is the very first game chronologically—yes, before Link could even walk on the ground.
You play as a young Link living on a floating island called Skyloft, and you’re about to embark on a journey to save your best friend, Zelda. Except she’s not a princess yet—she’s just a girl with a goofy loftwing bird and a mysterious destiny.
The whole game is a prequel that explains where the Master Sword came from, why evil keeps popping up, and how a magical goddess named Hylia started this whole mess. It’s a huge lore dump, but wrapped in a fun, colorful package.
The Controls: No More Flailing Around
Here’s the best part: Skyward Sword HD finally lets you play with button controls. Remember on the Wii when you had to swing the remote like a maniac, and your arm got tired after ten minutes? Yeah, that’s gone.
Now you can use the right joystick to aim your sword slashes—up, down, sideways, stab, you name it. It’s smooth, it’s precise, and it won’t make you look like you’re swatting bees at a family gathering.
And if you do want to swing wildly? You can still use motion controls! The HD version supports them on both Switch and Switch 2, so you can choose your own adventure—lazy couch style or full-body workout.
