Here’s my serious request for May 2026: can we please, for once, get a Bank Holiday without a bank holiday traffic pile-up on the news? I want the headlines to say: “Nation shocked: No queues, everyone has a nice time.” It’ll never happen. We thrive on collective complaining.
But here’s the beautiful truth: a rubbish Bank Holiday is still a brilliant one. Even if you spend it arguing over a scrabble board, getting sunburnt in the rain, or watching three episodes of a gardening show, you’re winning. Because on Tuesday morning, everyone else will be back at work, and you’ll still be wearing pyjamas at 3pm.
That’s the ultimate victory. So mark your calendar for Monday, 4th May 2026. Stock up on teabags, buy a cheap disposable barbecue, and prepare to be gloriously unproductive. You’ve earned it. And if it rains? Excellent. More time for cake.
