Tilling is like caffeine—great in small doses, catastrophic in high amounts. Use it as a spice, not the main course. The healthiest soil on Earth (prairies, forests, your grandma’s neglected backyard) has never been tilled. The grass there didn’t hire a rototiller consultant, you know?
So next time you’re tempted to churn your garden into a whirlpool of dirt, ask yourself: “Would I want someone to flip my house upside down just to help me find my keys?” No? Then let the worms keep their keys. They know where they’re going.
Happy not-tilling—or at least, till less, and till smarter.
