This is the most satisfying method, especially if you love instant gratification. Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil, then let it cool completely. You’ll notice a white, powdery sediment at the bottom. That’s calcium carbonate giving up and falling out of solution.
Pour the water off slowly, leaving the sediment behind. This works for small batches—like for your morning tea or a glass of drinking water. It won’t solve your whole house issue, but it’s a solid party trick. Side note: don’t try this with your fancy espresso machine unless you want a science project inside it.
