If you’re a typical person, your Tax ID Number is living on a little plastic card in your wallet or a shoebox in your closet. Pull out your Social Security card and boom—there it is, staring right back at you. Just remember, never carry that card around daily unless you want to lose it like I once lost my favorite coffee mug.
If your card is buried under a pile of old concert tickets, don’t panic. Your number is hiding on about a million other documents. Check your W-2 form from your job, the one your employer sends you every January. It’s right there in Box A, like a little treasure waiting to be found.
Your tax return from last year is another goldmine. Look at the top of Form 1040, and you’ll see it printed clearly. It’s like your signature move in the dance of paperwork—once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
